ActiveCampaign is built around automations that start the moment a contact joins a list or gets a tag. That only works for Facebook leads if they reach ActiveCampaign while they still remember your ad. Download a CSV from Meta once a day and your welcome email lands a day late, when the lead has already moved on.
This guide shows how to connect Facebook lead ads to ActiveCampaign step by step, in about three minutes, with no CSV exports and no Zapier. Every lead is added to your list and tagged, with your custom fields filled in, so the right automation starts within seconds.
Facebook keeps instant-form leads in Leads Center, so you need a connector to send them to ActiveCampaign. In LeadSender: connect Facebook, choose Facebook Leads to ActiveCampaign, pick your Page and form, paste the API URL and key from ActiveCampaign's Developer settings, pick a list, then turn it on. Every new lead becomes a tagged ActiveCampaign contact within seconds.

LeadSender reads your account's real fields, so you only ever see fields that exist in your ActiveCampaign.
| ActiveCampaign field | What happens |
|---|---|
| Required. ActiveCampaign finds or creates the contact by email | |
| First Name, Last Name, Phone Number | Matched for you from the lead form |
| Company | Links the contact to an Account with that name, created the first time it's used |
| Tags | Added on top of the automatic Page-name tag. Match a form answer or type your own |
| Your custom fields | Budget, timeframe, service or anything else, matched to any form answer |
Added a custom field in ActiveCampaign after setting up the integration? Click Refresh fields and it appears in the list.
Tags, lists and existing contacts
- The Page tag: every contact is tagged with the name of the Facebook Page the lead came from, like Harbor Point Realty. Running ads on several Pages? Each one gets its own tag.
- Your own tags: match Tags to a question like “Are you buying or selling?” and the answer becomes a tag. A question with several answers adds each one as its own tag. Or type a fixed tag, like Seller, that every lead from this form gets.
- The list: every new lead joins the list you picked, as a subscribed contact.
- People already in ActiveCampaign are updated with the new answers, tagged and added to the list. Nothing is duplicated, because ActiveCampaign matches contacts by email.
Leads go straight onto your list, so say in your lead form's intro or privacy policy that you'll follow up by email.
Start an automation the moment a lead arrives
Getting leads into ActiveCampaign is half the job; the other half is replying while they're still interested. Tags make this easy:
- In ActiveCampaign, open Automations and create a new automation.
- Start it with Tag is added and pick your Page tag, or a tag you set in LeadSender like Seller. Prefer lists? Start it with Subscribes to a list and pick the list you chose in LeadSender.
- Add a Send an email step with your welcome message, then make the automation active.
Every Facebook lead now gets your welcome email within minutes of submitting the form.
Running several ads? Give each form its own fixed tag, like FB Free Valuation or FB Open House, and start a different automation on each. Every lead gets the follow-up that matches the ad they answered.
LeadSender vs Zapier vs CSV imports
| LeadSender | Zapier | CSV import | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | From $9.99/mo | From $29.99/mo (Facebook Lead Ads is a premium app) | Free |
| Speed | ✓ Seconds | Depends on plan | ✗ Whenever you remember |
| Setup | ✓ About 3 minutes, guided | ⚠ Build and test a Zap | ⚠ Every time, by hand |
| Tags | ✓ Page tag plus your own | ⚠ Extra step in the Zap | ⚠ Per import |
| Custom fields | ✓ Your account's real fields | ✓ Mapped in the Zap | ⚠ Matched on each import |
| Failed leads | ✓ Reason and resend in Run history | Zap history | None |
Short version: CSV imports are fine for a one-off list, but every hour of delay costs you opens and replies. Zapier works if you already pay for a premium Zapier plan. LeadSender is the simplest way to get every Facebook lead into ActiveCampaign the moment it comes in. More in LeadSender vs Zapier.
When a Facebook lead doesn't show up in ActiveCampaign
- “ActiveCampaign rejected that URL/Key pair” when connecting: copy both again from Settings, Developer. The URL and the key must come from the same account.
- “Could not reach that ActiveCampaign URL”: paste the API URL exactly as ActiveCampaign shows it, like https://youraccount.api-us1.com.
- “ActiveCampaign needs an email”: the lead had no email, or Email isn't matched. Keep the email question in your form and match it to Email.
- “Saved the contact but couldn't apply the tag”: the contact is in ActiveCampaign but a tag didn't stick. Resend the lead from Run history; if it happens again, check the tag name.
- Nothing at all: check the integration is turned on, then send a test lead and read the result. Every attempt is listed in Run history.
